Peter M. Booher

Obituary published in The Calhoun Chronicle December 11, 1924

Peter M. Booher, Of Mt. Zion, W.Va., October 15th 1835 and departed this life Dec. 5th, 1924, age 89 years, 1 month and 20 days.

He was united in marriage to Catherine Hamric in 1856, and to this union were born seven children, four of whom survive: Mrs. Mary V. Morgan and Mrs. Ida B. Jeffreys both of Grantsville, Mrs J.W. Morgan, of Newark and Mrs. Sarah J. Dawson of Clarksburg. He was bereft of his wife in 1878.

In 1881 he was united in marriage to Mary A. Sink who still survives. To this union were born four children, three of whom are still living: Jacob Blaine Booher and Mrs. Bertha Marks, of Richwood and Mrs. Maud Gainer, of Mt. Zion.

He was a Union Veteran in the Civil War, served during the entire period of the war and at the close received an honorable discharge.

He was one of the pioneer farmers of Calhoun and at one time quite a successful horticulturist.

He was converted in 1887 and soon after baptised by J.M. Corberly. He united with the Sycamore Baptist church to which he remained a faithful member until the time of his death.

Funeral services were held by Rev. Whit Stump and interment was made at the Mt. Zion cemetery, Sunday evening Dec. 7th.

All of Mr. Booher's children were present for the funeral services except Mrs. Sarah J. Dawson of Clarksburg and Mrs. Bertha Marks of Richwood.
