The Calhoun Chronicle, a weekly newspaper published in Grantsville, West Virginia, has for many years published news from various communities. "Daniels Run News" has been an occasional to semi-regular feature. Here are some transcripts. We hope to add more as time and occasion permit.

January 13, 1961


Lenora Starcher was the Sunday guest of her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Starcher.

Gary and Joe Starcher were visiting Mr. and Mrs Henry Marks Sunday afternoon.

Jerry and Wilma Blake came home Sunday from Pine Creek where they had spent a few days visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Husk.

Mr. and Mrs. Pete Wood and baby were Monday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz.

Mrs. Ferris Barr spent Monday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet helping care for H.M. Maffet who remains ill.

Henry Marks was in Arnoldsburg Tuesday on business.

Roger Wood was the Tuesday night guest of his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Booher.

Mrs. Hattie Booher was visiting Mrs. Vena Marks Wednesday. Morning.

Mrs. Gae Blake was calling on Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Barr Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher a and Mrs. Blake were business callers in Grantsville Saturday.

Pete Wood was helping Gilbert Blake Saturday to build a chicken house.

William J. Woofter and partner of Glenville were here Saturday having walnut logs hauled they bought of Henry Marks and Fenton Nitz.

Wilma Blake was visiting Mrs. Sharon Wood Saturday.

Andy Husk, jr., of Pine Creek was the week end guest of his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake.

Henry Marks was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher Monday.

Pete and Odell Wood were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz Monday evening.

Russell Nester was visiting his wife and son of Cabin Ridge Tuesday.

Mrs. Glada Maffet was visiting her mother, Mrs. Laura Nitz, of Cabin Ridge Wednesday.

Lenora Starcher was calling on Mrs. Henry Marks Wednesday morning.

Mrs. Vena Marks was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher Wednesday afternoon.

Lester Booher and Gilbert Blake were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks Friday.

Among the folks at Morgan's store at Altizer Saturday were Lenora Starcher and grandson, Gary, Henry Marks, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake and Fenton Nitz.

Several pupils were absent from school Friday due to the snow.

Mrs. Gae Blake was visiting Mrs. Fenton Nitz Monday.

Mrs. Ferris Barr was visiting Mrs. Rex Maffet and H.M. Maffet Monday.

Pete and Odell Wood were calling on Fenton Nitz Monday evening.

Mrs. Grace Barr and Mrs. Opal Booher were sitting up at Rex Maffets Monday night. H.M. Maffet passed away Tuesday morning. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Stony Point church. The family has our heartfelt sympathy. Mr. Maffet will be sadly missed in our community.

Henry Marks was shopping at Altizer Tuesday.

Stanley Nitz of the Air Force has been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz, also his grandfather, Dee Nitz.

Mrs. Gae Blake was shopping at Morgan's store Wednesday.

Odell Wood was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks Wednesday evening.

Henry Marks was helping Cray Duelley butcher a hog Friday.

Allen B. Starcher, Mrs. Gae Blake and Henry Marks were shopping at Morgan's store Saturday.

The children of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Starcher have been ill of colds and flu.

Lenora Starcher has received word that her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Starcher, and two children have arrived in California where they plan to make their home. They formerly lived in Barberton, Ohio.

Fenton Nitz and son, Stanley, went to Barberton Friday to visit relatives and to purchase corn. They returned home Sunday.

Gilbert Blake was calling on Rex Maffett, Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Gilbert Blake were attending to business in town, Tuesday.

Mrs. Gay Blake, Allen B. Starcher and Henry Marks were shopping at Morgan's store, Thursday.

Mrs. Ferris Barr and Mrs. Gay Blake sat up with Mrs. A.M. Nester, Thursday night. Mrs. Nester has been worse now for some time.

Fenton Nitz took Mr. and Mrs. Pete Wood and baby to Apple Farm Saturday to visit Mrs. Wood's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Myrrh Wilson.

Mrs. Gay Blake and daughter, Wilma, Henry Marks and son, Roger Paul, and Allen B. Starcher were all at Morgan's store Saturday.

Henry Marks got Allen B. Starcher to haul some hay for him Tuesday from Roy Morgan's.

Fenton Nitz and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake were in town Tuesday.

Henry Marks was shopping at Morgan's store Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Barr were shopping in Spencer Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Pete Wood and daughter, and Gilbert Blake were visiting Henry and Vena Marks, Friday evening.

Mrs. Gae Blake was shopping at Morgan's store Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Pete Wood and daughter were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz Saturday.

Mrs. Vena Marks and son, Roger Paul, Allen B. Starcher, Lovell Allen, Diana and Gary Starcher were those at Morgan's store Saturday afternoon.

Robert Burch of Akron was called home due to the death of his father, Bud Burch. Other relatives here were Mr. and Mrs. Roy E. Wilson and children, Mr. and Mrs. Verle Hudson and son, Mr. and Mrs Bobby Ray Stump and Mr. and Mrs. George Amos, all of Dunbar, Mr. and Mrs Ray Link of Baltimore, Mrs Pauline Bailey and son and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Dickinson of Albion, N.Y.

Mrs. Gay Blake and daughter and Allen B. Starcher were shopping at Morgan's store, Monday.

Miss Wilma Blake was a Monday overnight guest of Misses Sharon and Karen Perrine.

Mrs Henry Marks and son, Roger Paul, and Allen B. Starcher and Gilbert Blake were attending to business in town, Tuesday.

Henry Marks was calling on Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sturm, Tuesday. Mrs. Sturm hasn't been feeling very well.

Mrs. Stella Sidwell was visiting Mrs. Vena Marks and Lenora Starcher, Tuesday afternoon.

Henry and Roger Paul Marks were shopping at Morgan's store, Wednesday.

Mrs. Gay Blake was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz Thursday evening.

Mrs. Gae Blake and children and Miss Madeline Blake were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Pete Wood, Sunday afternoon.

Eugene Starcher and daughter, Sandra, of Arnoldsburg were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Sunday evening.

Gerald Little enrolled in the school here Monday. This brought enrollment to 21 pupils. The students enjoyed an Easter egg hunt Friday.

Those shopping at Morgan's store Monday included Mrs. Henry Marks, Mrs. Edward Starcher and son Gary, Mrs. Gae Blake and children, Wilma and Carolyn, Miss Madeline Blake and Allen B. Starcher.

Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz were business callers in town Wednesday.

Mrs. Gae Blake was in town Friday consulting a doctor. Allen B. Starcher was a business visitor in town Friday.

Corley Miller was working on a tractor for his father-in-law, Allen B. Starcher, Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. James W. Carpenter of Lodi, Ohio, are parents of a son, John Alan, born April 26, weighing seven pounds, fourteen ounces. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Debro and Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Burden, all of Lodi. Great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher of Daniels Run. This is the third child for the Carpenters. They have another son and a daughter.

Gilbert Blake was a Sunday guest of his sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Burrows of near Mt. Zion.

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Pete) Wood and baby were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were visiting his sister, Mrs. Maggie Burch and family Sunday afternoon.

Alpheous Nester was calling on Henry Marks Sunday evening.

Mrs. Sharon Wood and baby were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz, Monday.

Gilbert Blake was a Morgan's store Monday.

Russell Lynch treated the pupils of the Daniels Run school to a weiner roast Tuesday. Mrs. Guy Wood and Lenora Starcher also attended.

Mrs Gay Blake and Miss Madeline Blake were at Morgan's store Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Gainer and children and Mrs. Ora Gainer were visiting Mr. and Mrs Allen B. Starcher Tuesday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were in town Wednesday. They also visited their son -in-law and daughter, Mrs. and Mrs. Corley Miller and children of Phillips Run.

Mrs Luther Booher was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Thursday.

Mrs. Rex Maffet was visiting her mother, Mrs. Laura Nitz one day last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Booher of Barberton are here visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs Luther Booher and Mr and Mrs Anderson of Altizer.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Melvin Starcher and Gilbert Blake were in town Saturday.

Vere Price and Oris Bailey are in the hospital. Their many friends here wish them a speedy recovery.

Visiting Lenora Starcher Saturday were her son, Louis Starcher, her sister, Mrs. Addie Starcher, her brother-in-law, Rufe Mace, also Russell Mace, all of Barberton.

Mrs. Vena Marks and son, Roger Paul, were visiting Mr. and Mr. Allen B. Starcher, Saturday afternoon and shopping at Morgan's store.

Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Parsons and son, Jackie, arrived here Saturday evening from Texas to visit his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks. They have resided in Texas the past seven years.

Miss Erless Barr arrived here from Washington, D.C., to spend the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Barr.
