The Calhoun Chronicle, a weekly newspaper published in Grantsville, West Virginia, has for many years published news from various communities. "Daniels Run News" has been an occasional to semi-regular feature. Here are some transcripts. We hope to add more as time and occasion permit.

Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hershman of Parkers burg were visiting her mother, Lenora Starcher, over the week end.

Miss Erless Barr returned Sunday to Charleston, where she is attending college, after spending the holidays here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Barr.

Lenora Starcher was shopping at Morgan's store Monday.

Mrs. Vena Marks was calling on Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Tuesday.

Mrs. Helen Starcher was shopping at Morgan's store Tuesday.

Lenora Starcher was in Spencer Tuesday having some teeth pulled.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town Saturday.

Henry Marks was working for Roy Morgan Saturday. Mr. Morgan hasn't been feeling well.

Gae Blake was shopping at Morgan's store Saturday.

Joe Starcher was a Saturday night guest of Roger Paul Marks.

Andy Husk of Pine Creek was a Saturday night guest of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake.

Jack Keener was calling on Henry Marks, Sunday afternoon.

Lov Starcher of Barberton spent the week end visiting his mother, Lenora Starcher.

Denver Starcher of Tuscon, Arizona, and Victor Starcher of Sistersville, W. Va., were visiting their father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher. Other guests were Mr. Starcher's granddaughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. "Coke" Gainer and three children and Mrs. Ora Gainer.

Mrs. Gae Blake was shopping at Morgan's store one day this week.

Allen B. Starcher sold a horse to Bill Allen of Arnoldsburg one day this week.

Mrs. Henry Marks was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town Saturday.

Gilbert Blake and sons, Jerry and Leonard, were shopping at Morgan's store, Saturday.

Mrs. Bud Burch was visiting her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, one day last week.

Pratt Barr has retired from his job in Akron and is now at home with his family.

Those visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and son, Roger, Sunday were Joey Starcher, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, and Mr. and Mrs. Corley Miller and children, Sharon and Timmy, of Phillips Run.

Mrs. Gae Blake and children, Leonard and Carolyn, were shopping at Morgan's store, Monday.

Gary Starcher was visiting Roger Marks Tuesday evening.

Diana Starcher was a Tuesday night guest of her cousins, Sharon and Karen Perrine.

Lenora Starcher was calling on Mrs. Henry Marks Thursday evening.

Mrs. Vena Marks was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Friday.

Mrs. Una Allen was calling on Lenora Starcher Friday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Mrs. Gae Blake were business callers in town, Saturday.

Henry Marks was calling on Allen B. Starcher, Saturday evening.

Andy Husk of Pine Creek was a Saturday night guest of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake.

March 17, 1960


Lenora Starcher and grand-children, Diana and Gary, were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and son Roger Paul, Sunday afternoon.

Henry Marks was calling on Allen B. Starcher, Sunday evening.

Terry Lee Naylor got hurt at school Tuesday. He was riding a sled in the snow. He was taken to Calhoun General hospital, but was able to come home Wednesday. He is the son of Mrs. Helen Starcher. We hope he will be able to go back to school soon.

Mrs. Hattie Booher was out visiting some of her neighbors Tuesday. Those she visited were Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Barr, Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz, Dee Nitz, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake and Mrs. Henry Marks. It has been so snowy and cold here there hasn't been much visiting done for some time, but everyone is hoping spring isn't far away.

Lenora Starcher was shopping at Morgan's store Tuesday and was baby sitting for her daughter, Helen while Helen went to the hospital with her son, Terry Lee.

Mrs. Gay Blake was shopping at Morgan's store Thursday and visiting with Lenora Starcher.

Henry Marks was visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Friday afternoon.

Louis Starcher came home from Barberton, Ohio, Friday to spend the week end with his mother, Lenora Starcher.

James Reed of Barberton spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carry Reed.

Allen B. Starcher, Henry Marks and Gilbert Blake were all shopping at Morgan's store Saturday.

Andy Husk was the week end guest of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake.

Mrs. Ferris Barr was visiting Mrs. Henry Marks and Mrs. Viola Wood, Monday. Mrs Wood remains ill at her home here.

Gilbert Blake was calling on Mr. and Mrs. Andy Husk of Pine Creek, Monday.

Mrs. Gae Blake was shopping at Morgan's store, Thursday.

Eugene Starcher of Arnoldsburg was a Thursday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town, Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price were visiting her father, Dee Nitz, and her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz, one day this week.

Guy Wood was calling on Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Sunday afternoon.

Lenora Starcher, Vena Marks and Gae Blake stayed with Mrs. Viola Wood, Sunday night. Mrs. Hattie Booher and Mrs. Willia Barr sat with her Monday night.

Mrs. Gae Blake was shopping at Morgan's store, Tuesday.

Lenora Starcher and Delta Starcher were calling on Mrs. Viola Wood, Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price sat up with Mrs. Viola Wood Wednesday night, and she passed away Thursday morning.

Mrs. Henry Marks was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Friday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Gilbert Blake were business callers in town Saturday morning.

Fenton Nitz was visiting Allen B. Starcher, Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Gilbert Blake and children went to Pine Creek Saturday to spent the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Husk.

Donald Booher of Barberton, O., spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Lester Booher.

Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hershman of Parkersburg spent the week end with her mother, Lenora Starcher, who spent the week with them and was consulting her doctor while there.

Mrs. Gae Blake and daughter, Wilma, were visiting Mrs. Helen Starcher and family, Sunday.

Melvin Starcher was helping Gilbert Blake plant potatoes, Tuesday.

Allen B. Starcher took Mrs. Gae Blake and daughter, Carolyn Sue, to Grantsville, Wednesday. Carolyn Sue fell on a can and cut her hand. One stitch closed the wound.

Mrs. Gilbert Blake was calling on Mrs. Henry Marks Thursday.

Gilbert Blake was visiting his brother, Lennie Blake and family Friday. His neice, Patty, came home with him to visit a few days.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Mrs. Vena Marks and Melvin Starcher were shopping in town, Saturday.

Lenora starcher, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hershman, and Roger Paul Marks were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Ed Starcher and family Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson and children of Dunbar were visiting his step-father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher recently.

Mr. and Mrs. Doanald Stump and children of Albion, N.Y. were Tuesday night guests of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher. They were also visiting another sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Burch of Mt. Zion.

Mr. and Mrs. Lester Booher were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher one day last week.

Mrs. Gae Blake and daughter Carolyn Sue were in town Wednesday, where they were consulting their doctor about Carolyn Sue's hand that was cut.

Mrs. Gay Blake and children, Leonard and Carolyn Sue, were visiting her sister-in-law, Mrs George Slider, Thursday.

Allen B. Starcher took Mr. and Mrs. Lester Booher to town Friday where Mr. Booher was consulting a doctor.

The state was grading down our roads, Friday. We appreciate this very much as the roads were very rough to ride over.

Mrs. Eva Starcher and daughter Mrs. Becky Hardway and baby son were visiting Lenora Starcher one day last week.

Several people are attending the revival meeting at Stoney Point.

Lennie Little and family moved to their farm here Sunday that they purchased recently. It is known as the Dee Stalnaker farm.

Mrs. Gilbert Blake and children were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Husk of Pine Creek, Saturday night and Sunday.

Mrs. Gae Blake and daughter, Wilma, were shopping at Morgan's store Monday evening.

Eugene Starcher of Arnoldsburg was calling on Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks Monday evening.

Fenton Nitz took Lennie Little and son to Grantsville Tuesday evening. Mr. Little's son had run a nail in his foot.

Fenton Nitz took Mrs. Gae Blake to the doctor in Grantsville Wednesday evening. Mrs. Blake has the flu.

Herry Siers was testing cattle in this community Thursday.

Diana Starcher was calling on Mrs. Vena Marks Thursday evening.

Allen B. Starcher took Mrs. Gae Blake and children to Morgan's store, Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Mrs. Vena Marks and Melvin Starcher were shopping in town, Sautrday.

Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz and Mrs. Gae Blake were in town Saturday, shopping, and Mrs. Blake consulted her doctor again.

Gilbert Blake and son, Jerry, were at Morgan's store Saturday.

Pratt Barr plowed and disced a garden for Lenora Starcher, Friday and Saturday.

Louis Starcher spent the week wend with his mother, Lenora Starcher. He is employed in Barberton.

Gilbert Blake and children were visiting Henry Marks and family, Sunday afternoon.

Andy Husk, Jr. , was a Sunday night guest of his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake.

George Slider was calling on Henry Marks, Monday.

Tuesday was a very rainy day here but there were several out to vote at Rocksdale.

Harry Siers was testing cattle in this community this week.

Henry Marks and Hatzel Leach were working for Pratt Barr this week.

Gilbert Blake was calling on Melvin Stardcher Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town, Saturday.

Those shopping at Morgan's store Saturday from this community were Lenora Starcher, Gae Blake and daughter , Wilma, Henry Marks and son, Roger Paul, Allen B. Starcher and Guy Wood.

George Slider and Henry Marks and son, Roger Paul were business callers on Bill Church of Rocksdale Saturday. Henry purchased two pigs from Mr. Church.

Mrs. Violet Blake of Grantsville and her brother, Andy Husk, jr., of Pine Creek were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Geraldine Hershman of Parkersburg was visiting her mother, Lenora Starcher, Sunday night.

Several mothers attended the weiner roast at the school here Tuesday which Mrs. Vera Bailey gave for pupils and parents. School closed Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen Dee Nitz and daughters of Barberton arrived here Saturday morning to visiting his grandfathers, Allen B. Starcher and Dee Nitz, and other relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were business visitors in Spencer, Saturday morning.

Among those shopping at Morgan's store Saturday were Lenora Starcher and grandchildren, Diana, Gary and Joe Starcher, Mrs. Vena Marks and son, Roger, Allen B. Starcher, Guy Wood and sons, Ronnie and Roger, O'dell Wood, Mrs. Hattie Booher and Mrs Gae Blake and two children.

Allen B. Starcher took Mrs Helen Starcher and son, Terry , to the doctor one evening this week. Terry was ill of flu.

Gilbert Blake and daughter, Joann and Wilma were visiting his brother, Lennie Blake and family, Saturday. The girls remained for a week's visit.

Lenora Starcher received word Sunday morning of the death of her sister, Mrs. Maud Mace of Barberton.

There was a nice crowd at the preaching and baptizing at Stoney Point church, Sunday. Rev. Bob Duskey was the minister.

Mrs. Laura Nitz of Cabin Ridge was visiting her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Lester Booher were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were calling in town, Tuesday.

Lenora Starcher and daughter, Geraldine Hershman, and Diana and Joey Starcher were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks.

Fenton Nitz was a business caller in town, Wednesday.

Mrs. Gilbert Blake and daughter, Carolyn Sue, were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Lennie Blake, Wednesday, and brought her two daughters Wilma and Joann home. They had spent a few days visiting their aunt and uncle.

A large crowd attended the funeral of Mrs. Maud Mace at Stoney Point church, Wednesday. Burial followed at the Gibson cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. Harley Starcher and Mrs. and Mrs. Russell Starcher all of Barberton, Ohio, were visiting Lenora Starcher, Wednesday.

Mrs. Delta Starcher went to Dunbar, Thursday, to visit her son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson and children, Janice and Bob. She attended the graduation of Janice while there. She returned home Saturday, accompanied by her son and family.

Fenton Nitz took Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and son, Roger, to town Thursday. Mr. Marks went to consult a doctor as he had a bad case in quinsy.

Mrs. Gae Blake was shopping at Morgan's store Friday.

Allen B. Starcher was on Jesses Run Friday evening. He purchased two pigs, one from Frank Lynch and the other from Izora Husk.

Gary and Joe Starcher were visiting Roger Paul Marks, Thursday.

Mrs. Gae Blake and daughter Wilma, were shopping a t Morgan's store, Friday.

Cecil Sturm and Eugene Starcher were calling on Henry Marks, Friday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town, Saturday.

Among those shopping at Morgan's store Saturday were Lenora Starcher and grandson, Joe, Vena Marks and son, Roger Paul, and Allen B. Starcher.

Henry Marks and Gilbert Blake were working for Allen B. Starcher Saturday afternoon, putting up a television antenna. Stanley Nitz of the U.S. Army was visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz and his grandfather, Dee Nitz, this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Denver Naylor and children of Florida were here this week and took his son, Terry Lee, to Barberton, O., with them for a visit. They came back Sunday morning and started back home, taking Terry Lee home with them for a visit.

Mr. and Mrs. Quenton Ballentyne and children of Cleveland spent the week end with her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and son, Roger Paul. Others calling on the Marks family Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Queen of Cleveland, Lenora Starcher and Gilbert Blake. Mrs. Queen is a sister of Mrs. Balllantyne and Mrs. Marks.

H.M. Maffett was visiting Henry Marks, Monday.

Lowe Metz o Arnoldsburg was injured when he fell from a cherry tree while picking cherries on the Ferris Barr farm here Wednesday morning. His many friends here hope he will soon recover.

Eugene Starcher of Arnoldsburg took a calf to market in Spencer Friday for Henry Marks.

Gary and Joe Starcher were visiting Roger Paul Marks one day last week.

Lenora Starcher was visiting Mrs. Vena Marks, Saturday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Melvin Starcher and Gilbert Blake were shopping in town, Saturday.

Those visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher during the week end were her two sisters and brother-in-law, Mrs. Pauline Bailey of Albion, N.Y., and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Link of Glen Burnie, Md., her niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs . Richard Dickenson of Albion. Those folk also visited another sister and aunt, Mrs. Maggie Burch. Other Starcher visitors were Mr. and Mrs. Ray McCoy and daughter, Linda, and Mr. and Mrs. Corley Miller and children.

Mrs. Gae Blake and children spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Husk of Pine Creek.

Eugene Starcher and Cecil and Roy Sturm, Jr., were calling on Henry Marks, Sunday afternoon.

Word was received here Monday night of the death of Russell Starcher of Barberton. He was a brother-in-law of Everett and Lenora Starcher. Funeral services were held at Stoney Point church Thursday and burial was in the Gibson cemetery. His wife, Mrs. Addie Starcher, is spending some time visiting her sister, Lenora Starcher and other relatives here.

Mrs. Gilbert Blake and daughter, Joanne were in Parkersburg Tuesday. Joanne was attending the clinic for crippled children.

Louis Starcher and mother were shopping in town Wednesday.

Mrs. Hattie Booher was calling on Lenora Starcher, Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hershman of Parkersburg were visiting her mother, Lenora Starcher, Thursday evening. Mrs. Hershman remained here till Friday to attend the funeral of her uncle.

Allen B. Starcher sold a cow and a calf at Spencer market Friday.

Fred Starcher of Barberton was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher a day or so this week.

Joanna, Wilma, Jerry and Leonard Blake were Sunday guests of their uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George Slider.

Lenora Starcher and son, Lou, and granddaughter, Diana, left Sunday morning for Barberton to visit relatives. Lou returned to is job as he had been on vacation.

Donald Booher of Barberton spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Booher.
