The Calhoun Chronicle, a weekly newspaper published in Grantsville, West Virginia, has for many years published news from various communities. "Daniels Run News" has been an occasional to semi-regular feature. Here are some transcripts. We hope to add more as time and occasion permit.

August 6, 1959


Mr. and Mrs. Cray Duelly and nephew, Larry Powell, and Bob Jones were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks Sunday afternoon.

Gilbert Blake was a business caller in Grantsville Tuesday.

Mrs. Vena Marks and Roger Paul were calling on Mrs. Helen Starcher, Wednesday.

A large crowd attended the funeral of Mrs. Nitz, Wednesday. She will be sadly missed.

Mr. and Mrs. George Slider and Mrs. Gae Blake were in Parkersburg Friday. Mrs. Blake was consulting Dr. Gilmore.

Mr. and Mrs. Jud Nitz and daughter, Leah, and granddaughter, Loretta, of Spencer, were calling on his brother, Dee Nitz, Saturday.

Vere Price took a nice hog to the stock sale in Spencer Friday for Dee Nitz.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Blake of Ohio were visiting his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mr. Gilbert Blake Friday night.

Among those shopping in town Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Mrs. Vena Marks and Melvin Starcher.

Mrs. Henry Marks, Allen B. Starcher and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake were shopoping at Morgan's store Saturday.

There were 44 attending Sunday school and preaching service at Stoney Point, Sunday. Prayer meeting at 7:30 Wednesday evenings.

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Boatright and children of Barberton were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, this week.

Mrs. Gae Blake and children were calling on her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Andy Husk of Pine Creek, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Denver Roberts were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake, Monday.

Joe Lynch was visiting his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Booher a few days this week.

Mrs. Vera Bailey was calling on Mrs. Vena Marks, Wednesday.

Mrs. Grace Barr and daughter, Katherine, were visiting her mother, Mrs. Esther Gibson, Thursday.

Vere Price and son, Lorn, and Dell Price and Gilbert Blake were business callers in Spencer Friday.

Roger Paul Marks was calling on Mrs. Hattie Booher one day this week.

Among folks shopping in town Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Mrs Gae Blake and Melvin Starcher.

Mrs. Helen Starcher took her son, Randal Dean, to Dr. Teopfer, Saturday.

Lenora Starcher and granddaughter, Diana, returned home Saturday from Barberton after spending three weeks visiting relatives. She was accompanied home by her sons, Louis and Russell.

Roy Morgan and George Slider were in Parkersburg Saturday. Mr. Morgan was consulting his doctor.

Dionald Booher spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Booher. He is employed in Parkersburg.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son were calling on her father, Dee Nitz, Saturday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Lynch and children, Linda, Joe and Stanley were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Booher, Sunday.

Mrs. Gae Blake was shopping at Roy Morgan's store, Monday.

Mrs. Vina Harris of Sand Ridge and Mrs. Verdis Marks and daughter , Imogene and Teressa, of Zanesville, O., were calling on their brother, Henry Marks and family, Wednesday evening.

Roger Paul Marks was at Morgan's store, Wednesday.

Earl Husk was visiting his mother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake a few day this week.

Mrs. Esther Gibson was calling on her daughter, Mrs. Grace Barr and family, Thursday.

Wilma, Jerry and Leonard Blake were shopping at Morgan's store one day this week.

Guy Wood was calling on Dee Nitz one evening this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Gilbert Blake were among those from this community shopping in town, Saturday.

Mrs. Geraldine Hershman of Parkersburg was visiting with her mother, Lenora Starcher, Saturday.

Some of the folks shopping at Morgan's store Saturday were Wilma and Jerry Blake, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Mrs. Vena Marks, Diana, Terry and Gary Starcher and Roger Paul Marks.

Joey Starcher, small son of Mrs. Helen Starcher, was a Saturday night guest of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and son, Roger Paul.

Mr. and Mrs. Glen Cogar of Lockney was calling on her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Sunday.

Dee Nitz was visiting with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price, Wednesday.

Diana, Gary, and Joey Starcher were visiting with Mrs. Henry Marks, Thursday.

Mrs. Gae Blake was shopping at Morgan's store, Thursday.

Wilma, Jerry and Leonard Blake were visiting Mrs. Henry Marks, Thursday.

Dee Nitz was shopping in Spencer, Friday.

Henry Marks and son, Roger, were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Friday evening.

Mrs. Gae Blake took her son to Dr. Toepfer Saturday for a check-up.

Mrs. And Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town, Saturday.

Charles and Gary Starcher were visiting their father, Edward Starcher, Saturday. They make their home with their grandparents.

Lovell Allen returned home last week from a hospital in Phillippi, where he underwent surgery. He is getting along good at this time.

Rex Maffet was visiting his mother-in-law, Mrs. Laura Nitz, Saturday.

Mrs. Vena Marks and son, Roger were shopping at Morgan's store, Saturday.

Vere Price was calling on Dee Nitz, Saturday.

Ida D. Hathaway and son were visiting his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs . Lovell Allen, Saturday.

Joey Starcher spent Saturday night with Roger Paul Marks.

Henry Marks was helping Allen B. Starcher in hay harvest this week.

Mrs. Gae Blake was shopping at Morgan's store, Monday.

Earl Husk of Pine Creek was visiting his brother-in-law and sister, Mrs. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake a few days this week.

Mr. and Mrs. George Slider and Mrs. Gae Blake were in Parkersburg Wednesday, where Mrs. Blake was consulting her doctor.

Joey Starcher was a Wednesday night guest of Roger Paul Marks.

Among folk shopping in town Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Cray Duelley and Mr. And Mrs. Allen B. Starcher.

Mrs. Helen Starcher took her daughter, Diana, to Dr. Toepfer Saturday. She got her knee cut riding a bike. It was reported that it took ten stitches to close the wound.

Cray Duelly was calling on Henry Marks, Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Gilbert Blake and children, Jerry and Wilma, were shopping at Morgan's store, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Gilbert Blake were visiting and watching television with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Saturday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hickman of New Martinsville were visiting her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Saturday. Mrs. Hickman is the former Miss Seva Starcher.

Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Starcher of Barberton arrived here Saturday to visit his father and stepmother, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and other relatives.

Mrs. Gae Blake and children spent Saturday night and Sunday visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Husk of Pine Creek.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson and daughter, Janice, and son, Bob, of Dunbar were visiting his mother and step father, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Barr and daughter, Erless, were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Glover Craddock.

Cray Duelly and Henry and Roger Paul Marks were calling on Edgar Duelly, Sunday.

Mrs. Velma Wood and sons, Ronnie and Roger, were visiting Mrs. Vena Marks, Sunday afternoon.

Lenora Starcher was calling on her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Starcher, Sunday.

Miss Erless Barr was visiting Mrs. Henry Marks, Monday.

School has started here. Mrs. Vera Bailey is teacher. There are 15 pupils enrolled.

Mr. and Mrs. Cray Duelly were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Tuesday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price were calling on her father, Dee Nitz, Tuesday.

Joe Starcher of Arnoldsburg was calling on Henry Marks, Tuesday evening.

Some of the folk shopping at Morgan's store Wednesday were Lenora Starcher and grandson, Dana Paul, Mrs. Henry Marks, Lester Booher and Mrs. Helen Starcher.

Gilbert Blake was attending to business in town Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Allen and children of Akron have been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lovell Allen.

Mr. And Mrs. James Nester and children of Akron have been visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Nester.

Louis Starcher of Barberton, O., spent the week end with his mother, Lenora Starcher.

Erless Barr left Saturday for Charleston where she will attend business college.

Allen B. Starcher was calling on Henry Marks, Saturday.

October 1, 1959


Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were calling on his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Cogar of Lockney one day this week.

Dee Nitz was taken to a Parkersburg hospital Saturday evening, and underwent surgery Monday morning.

Mrs. Grace Barr was visiting her mother, Mrs. Esther Gibson, Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Cray Duelly were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Tuesday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffett and Mrs. Gae Blake were in Parkersburg Wednesday. Mrs. Blake and Mr. Maffett were consulting their doctors.

Henry Marks was calling on Cecil Sturm, Thursday.

Mrs. Willa Barr was visiting Mrs. Vena Marks Thursday afternoon. Lenora Starcher was also visiting Mrs. Marks.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Mrs. Vena Marks, H.M. Maffett, Rex Maffet, Clyde Allen and Melvin Starcher were among the folk from here in town Saturday.

Emmons Smith purchased some calves from Allen B. Starcher recently and was here Saturday to get them.

Gilbert Blake and children, Wilma, Jerry and Leonard, were shopping at Morgan's store, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake and children, Leonard and Carolyn, and Allen B. Starcher were business callers in town, Monday.

Lenora Starcher was visiting with Mrs. Vena Marks Monday afternoon.

Mrs. Grace Barr was calling on her mother, Mrs. Esther Gibson, Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake and children, Leonard and Carolyn, were shopping in Spencer, Tuesday.

Dee Nitz came home from the hospital one day last week.

Henry Marks was in Arnoldsburg, Friday.

Mrs. Mina Marks and sister-in-law, Mrs. Myrtle Rush and son, Delbert, of Fairmont were visiting Mrs. Marks' son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Friday evening.

Roy Morgan was delivering feed to Henry Marks Friday evening.

Those in town Saturday from here included Clyde Allen, Melvin Starcher and Gilbert Blake.

Mrs. Gae Blake and son, Leonard, were shopping at Morgan's store Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Starcher and son, Dale Lee, and Louis Starcher, all of Barberton, and Mr. and Mrs. Dean Hershman of Parkersburg were visiting their mother, Lenora Starcher over the week end.

Henry Marks and son, Roger Paul, were at Allen B. Starcher's Saturday afternoon and helped put up a television antenna.

Miss Minnie Hamiltion, county health nurse, was at the school here Friday giving shots to the pupils.

Mr. and Mrs. George Slider and Mrs. Gae Blake were in Parkersburg one day last week where Mrs. Blake was consulting her doctor.

Mr. and Mrs. Denver Roberts were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake, Sunday.

Rev. Shaffer, who was holding a series of meeting at the Millstone Church of Christ, was a Monday supper guest of Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher.

Mrs. Gae Blake and children were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Husk of Pine Creek, Wednesday.

Mrs. Vena Marks was visiting Mrs. Delta Starcher, Wednesday.

Miss Madeline Blake spent a few days this week visiting her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake.

Henry Marks was helping Pratt Barr haul hay from Roy Morgan's, Saturday.

Mrs. Esther Gibson was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Grace Barr, Monday.

Mrs. Ferris Barr was calling on Mrs. Henry Marks Monday evening.

Andy Husk of Pine Creek was calling on Gilbert Blake and family Thursday.

Melvin Starcher was calling on Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks Friday.

Joe Starcher was a Thursday overnight guest of Roger Paul Marks.

Denver Roberts was helping Melvin Starcher roof a cellar house Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were business callers in Grantsville Friday.

Corley Miller and Henry Marks butchered a hog for Allen B. Starcher, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and son, Roger Paul, and Lenora Starcher were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Ed Starcher and family Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Mina Marks and nephew, Guy Cottrell, were calling on her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Sunday evening.

Henry Marks and Melvin Starcher were helping Clyde Allen butcher a hog, Monday.

Allen B. Starcher and Gilbert Blake were in town Wednesday. Mr. Blake was selling walnuts.

Henry Marks was calling on Eugene Starcher of Arnoldsburg, Wednesday.

Mrs. Viola Wood and son Odell were in town Saturday. Mrs Wood was bitten by their dog that had rabies, and she received the first shot of a series she will have to take.

Mrs. And Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were in town Saturday. Mr. Starcher was consulting his doctor.

Rex Maffett, Clyde Allen, Melvin Starcher and Gilbert Blake were all business callers in town Saturday.

December 17, 1959


Joe Starcher, son of Mrs. Helen Starcher, spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and son, Roger.

Louis Starcher of Barberton came home Saturday to visit her mother, Lenore Starcher, who accompanied him back to Barberton Sunday. She will care for her grandson while his mother, Mrs. Russell Starcher is in the hospital.

Andy Husk of Pine Creek was calling on Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake, Sunday.

Mrs. Esther Gibson of Altizer has been spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. Pratt Barr.

Henry Marks helped Cray Duelley butcher two hogs, Tuesday.

Bailey Wilson was here Tuesday taking the farm census.

Mrs. Gae Blake spent Wednesday night with Mr. and Mrs. Lennie Blake of Pine Creek.

The funeral of Mary Blake, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lennie Blake, was held at Stoney Point church Thursday. Burial was in Gibson cemetery. Rev Richards of Grantsville officiated.

Mrs. Delta Starcher visited Mrs. Vena Marks Friday.

George Wood was calling on Gilbert Blake, Friday.

Homer Parsons was calling on Gilbert Blake, Saturday.
