The Calhoun Chronicle, a weekly newspaper published in Grantsville, West Virginia, has for many years published news from various communities. "Daniels Run News" has been an occasional to semi-regular feature. Here are some transcripts. We hope to add more as time and occasion permit.

January 13, 1956


Mr. and Mrs. Russell Starcher and Louis Starcher of Barberton came in Friday night and spent the Christmas holidays with their mother, Lenora Starcher .

Parents enjoying the Christmas program at the Daniels run school Friday were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Simmons, Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Craddock, Mrs. Hazel Stockwell, Gilbert Blake, Lenora Starcher, Mrs Henry marks, Mrs .Helen Naylor, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Wood and Mrs. Irene Lynch, also Miss Wilma Bailey was present.

Virgil Marks was visiting his brother, Henry Marks, Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son, Loren, were Christmas day guests of her parents, Mr. and Mr. Dee Nitz.

Mr. and Mrs. Corley Miller and children of Phillips run were calling on her parents, Mr. and Mrs Allen B. Starcher, Saturday, also Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and son, roger Paul, and Geraldine Starcher.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson and children of Dunbar were visiting with his step-father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Christmas.

Mrs. Ferris Barr and Mrs. Pratt Barr were calling on friends and neighbors, Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Starcher and Louis Starcher spent the New Years holiday here with their mother, Lenora Starcher .

Mrs. Mina Marks was visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs Henry Marks and son , Roger Paul, Saturday.

Among the folks at Morgan's store, Saturday, were Allen b. Starcher and son, Melvin, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and Roger Paul, and Miss Geraldine Starcher.

Delbert Lynch and son, Joey, were business callers on Henry Marks, Saturday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Ray McCoy of Barberton were visiting Mr.; and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, recently.

Pratt Barr of Akron spent the holidays with his wife and daughter here.

We were sorry to hear of the death of Mrs. Marty Smith. The family has our sympathy.

Allen B. Starcher purchased two pigs at the livestock sale at Spencer, last Friday.

Louis Starcher of Barberton, O., spent last week end with his mother and sister.

Mrs. Oma Nester of Cabin Ridge was visiting Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Nester, recently.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson and children and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Brammer and children of Dunbar spent last week end here at their camp.

Among folks shopping at Morgan's store last Saturday were Mrs. Gilbert Blake, Miss Geraldine Starcher and Henry Marks.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Gilbert Blake were business callers in town last Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz were the last Sunday guests of their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs Vere Price.

Henry Marks was calling on Dee Nitz, Sunday evening.

Pupils of the Daniels Run school enjoyed an egg hunt Friday and received a nice treat. Mothers attending were Mrs. Velma Wood, Mrs. Hazel Stockwell and Mrs. Vena Marks.

Colds and flu have been pretty plentiful around here. This reporter hasn't been well since January.

Eugene Starcher of Arnoldsburg was a business caller on Henry Marks, Monday evening.

Mr. and Mrs Henry Marks and Roger Paul and Lovell Allen were shopping at Roy Morgan's store, Thursday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet and H.M. Maffet arrived here Friday night from Barberton, O. Rex returned to Barberton Sunday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Gilbert Blake were shopping in town, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Starcher and Louis Starcher came in from Barberton Saturday morning to spend the week end with home folks.

Mr and Mrs. Verdis Marks and baby, Teresa Elaine, of Philo, O., and Mrs. Mina Marks of Sand Ridge were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Saturday afternoon.

Henry Marks and Roger Paul were at Morgan's store, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson and children of Dunbar were Saturday night guests of his step-father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher. Other guests were Mr. Starchcer's daughter, Mrs. Woodrow Carpenter and son, Jim, of near Barberton, O., and her son-in-law and daughter, Mr nad Mrs. Roscoe Gainer and children of Sand Ridge.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz, Saturday.

April 13, 1956


Mrs. Helen Naylor and children were visiting her mother, Lenora Starcher, Sunday afternoon.

H.M. Maffet was the Sunday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks.

Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz were visiting their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price, Sunday.

Mrs Gilbert Blake took her daughter, Jo Ann to a Parkersburg hospital, Tuesday. Mrs. Blake returned home Tuesday evening. Mr. Blake went to Parkersburg Tuesday night and remained there until Friday.

Lenora Starcher and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Janet Starcher, were in town, Wednesday.

Mrs. Gae Blake was shopping at Holly Nester's store, Wednesday.

Lenora Starcher, Mrs. Janet Starcher and Diana Naylor were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Thursday evening.

Henry Marks was shopping at Morgan's store, Friday.

Mrs. Gae Blake was in Parkersburg Friday to visit her daughter who is in the hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Mrs. Vena Marks and Roger Paul, Gilbert Blake and Melvin Starcher were shopping in town, Saturday.

Henry Marks was in Arnoldsburg, Saturday.

Terry and Diana Naylor were visiting their grandmother, Mrs. Lenora Starcher, Saturday.

Carl Allen Harris of Sand Ridge was the Saturday night guest of his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks.

Certainly didn't look like spring was here Saturday Sunday. It looked more like winter was here yet.

April 19, 1956


Beverly and Roy Nester were visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Nester, Sunday.

Mrs. Vena Marks was visiting Mrs. Delta Starcher, Monday.

Lenora Starcher was consulting Dr. Toepfer Monday.

Gilbert Blake was calling on Henry Marks, Monday evening.

Miss Geraldine Starcher was visiting Vena Marks, Monday evening.

Mrs. Gae Blake was in town, Tuesday.

Lenora Starcher was having some x-rays made by Dr. Toepfer, Tuesday. She hasn't been feeling good for some time now and was consulting Dr. Harris in Parkersburg later on in the week.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz, Wednesday.

Mrs. Rex Maffet was calling on Mrs. Gilbert Blake, Wednesday, and also on Mrs Henry Marks.

Allen B. Starcher has had a sick horse and called in Dr. Trout of Spencer one day this past week.

H.M. Maffet was visiting Henry Marks, Wednesday.

Mrs. Gae Blake was consulting Dr. Toepfer, Wednesday evening. She has a cold.

Henry Marks got his potatoes planted Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks were shopping at Morgan's store, Friday.

Little Jo Ann Blake was operated on in a Parkersburg hospital, April 3, and is reported doing real well. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Gilbert Blake.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Starcher and Louis Starcher of Barberton, O., arrived here Saturday morning to spend the week end with relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town, Saturday.

Mrs. Gae Blake visited her daughter in the hospital in Parkersburg, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Starcher were Sunday guests of her brother and family, Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Blake.

Lenora Starcher and daughter, Geraldine, were visiting her daughter, Mrs. Helen Naylor, Sunday.

Mrs. Velma Wood and son, John Roger, were visiting Mrs. Gae Blake and Mrs. Vena Marks, Sunday afternoon.

Eugene Starcher of Arnoldsburg was calling on Henry Marks, Sunday evening.

Gilbert Blake was shopping at Roy Morgan's store, Monday.

It is reported that Jo Ann Blake has had the big measles and she hasn't been feeling so well. She was taken to Dr. Stump's Friday night.

Andy Husk of Pine Creek was visiting his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs Gilbert Blake, over the week end.

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Carpenter and daughter, Janet arrived here Friday night to spend the week end with their daughter, Judy and son, Jeffery, and also her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town, Saturday.

Henry Marks was in Arnoldsburg, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Russell Starcher and Louis Starcher of Barberton, O., spent last week end with their mother, Lenora Starcher .

Henry Marks and Roger Paul were calling on Melvin Starcher, Wednesday.

Vena Marks was shopping at Morgan's store Wednesday afternoon.

Jimmy and Johnny Stockwell were shopping at Morgan's store, Wednesday.

Mrs. Gilbert Blake was visiting Mrs. Henry Marks, Wednesday.

Mrs Vera Bailey had a weiner roast for the school children at her home, Thursday.

Lenora Starcher was visiting her daughter, Mrs. Helen Naylor and family, Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz were business caller sin Spencer, Friday.

Mrs. Maxine Stevens of Pine Creek was in our community, Friday.

H.M. Maffet was calling on Gilbert Blake, Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were business callers in town, Saturday.

Mrs. Vena Marks, Roger Paul, and Terry Lee Naylor were shopping at Roy Morgan's store, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs Roy Wilson and children and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Brammer and children of Dunbar spent the week end here at their camp and visited Mr. Wilson's mother and step-father, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher. Mr. Starcher returned home with them for a few days visit.

June 7, 1956


Mrs. Ferris Barr accompanied her daughter and son-in law, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Louk back to Barberton, Ohio, Sunday, where she planned to enter a hospital for major surgery. We are wishing she will soon be back home, greatly improved.

We were sorry to hear of the deaths of Kester Vannoy, John Schoolcraft and Ed Crawford. The families of each has our heartfelt sympathy.

Lenora Starcher entered a Parkersburg hospital Monday for surgery. She was accompanied by her daughter, Geraldine.

Mrs. Henry Marks and Roger Paul were shopping at Morgan's store, Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son were calling on her folks, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz, Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Boatright and children and Mr. and Mrs Delbert Starcher, all of Barberton, Mr. and Mrs. Denver Starcher and sons of Middlebourne, and Mr. and Mrs Corley Miller and children of Phillips run were all visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Decoration day.

Mr. and Mrs Russell Starcher, Louis and Geraldine Starcher were visiting their mother, Lenora Starcher, in the hospital, Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town, Saturday.

Lenora Starcher came home Saturday from the hospital and is getting along good.

Folks shopping at Morgan's store, Saturday, were Vena Marks and Roger Paul, H.M. Maffet, Gilbert Blake, Andy Husk, Donald Booher and Russell Starcher .

Mrs Henry Marks and Roger Paul were calling on Mr. and Mr.s Gilbert Blake one day this week.

Little Miss Jo Ann Blake was in Parkersburg a week ago Saturday and had the casts taken off her legs and she can walk some now. Her legs are straight now, and Dr Lutz certainly did a fine job.

September 20, 1956


Folk shopping in town Saturday from here were Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Geraldine Starcher.

Vena Marks and son Roger Paul were calling on Lenora Starcher, Saturday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Warren Rose and children, Chester, Ralph, Edith and Paul of Racine, Ohio were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henary Marks. Other callers at the Marks' home were Eugene Starcher of Arnoldsburg, Melvin Starcher, and Gilbert Blake.

Mrs. Carrie Reed and H.M. Maffet were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Luther Booher, Sunday. Other guests were Mrs. Booher's sister and two children.

Mrs. Gae Blake and children were visiting Mrs. Henry Marks, Thursday evening.

Farmers are busy cutting and putting up their hay in this community and the housewives are busy canning and making apple butter.

Mrs. Vena Marks and son Roger Paul and Terry Naylor were among those shopping at Morgan's store, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs Allen B. Starcher, Gilbert Blake and daughter, Wilma, and Andy Husk, Jr. were shopping in town Saturday.

Russell Starcher arrived here Saturday from Barberton, Ohio, to visit his mother, Lenora Starcher.

Henry Marks spent Saturday night with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marks of Sand Ridge.

November 22, 1956


Mrs. Gae Blake and children were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Husk of Pine Creek, Sunday.

Lovell Allen was calling on Henry Marks, Monday evening.

Gilbert Blake was visiting his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Earl burse, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet spent the week end at their home here, and were at the election, Tuesday.

Most everyone was out to the election, Tuesday, to cast their votes for their favorite candidates.

Mr. and Mrs Gilbert Blake and children were visiting Mrs. Henry Marks and Roger Paul, Tuesday evening.

Mrs. Melvin Starcher was visiting her sister, Mrs. George Slider, Tuesday.

The Daniels Run school is progressing nicely with Mrs. Vera Bailey as teacher, with 14 pupils, Mrs. Velma Wood is the cook. School was dismissed at noon Friday so they could attend the homecoming parade in Grantsville.

Among the folk shopping at Morgan's store, Friday, were Mrs. Vena Marks, H.M. Maffet and George Wood.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson and children, and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Brammer and children of Dunbar arrived here Saturday morning to spend the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher. Delbert Starcher of Barberton, O., was also the guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Starcher.
