The Calhoun Chronicle, a weekly newspaper published in Grantsville, West Virginia, has for many years published news from various communities. "Daniels Run News" has been an occasional to semi-regular feature. Here are some transcripts. We hope to add more as time and occasion permit.

January 3, 1953


Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Queen and Miss Gae Parsons left here Saturday evening to return to Cleveland, O., after spending a few days visiting their mother, Mr. Anna Parsons and their sister, and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson and children of Dunbar returned home Saturday after visiting his mother and step-father Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher.

Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Harris, Mrs. Goldia Nicholas and Virgil Marks were all calling on their brother Henry Marks and family Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were Sunday guests of her cousins Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stump of Stumptown.

We were sorry to hear of the death of Avery Wood. The family has our deepest sympathy.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were calling on his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Corley Miller of Phillips Run Wednesday.

Basil Brown butchered another hog Thursday. Lovel Allen was helping him.

H. M. Maffet was visiting Henry Marks family Thursday evening.

Allen B. Starcher was shopping in Grantsville Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs Allen B. Starcher wand H.M. Maffet were among those watching television at Holly Nester's Saturday night.

Roy Nester of Cabin ridge was calling on his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Nester, Sunday.

Larry Reed was visiting Henry Marks family Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son, Loren were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz, Tuesday.

We have had plenty of snow and rain this past week and plenty of mud too.

Allen B. Starcher was attending to business in Spencer Friday.

H.M. Maffet was calling on Henry Marks family Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son, Loren were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Mrs. Vena Marks were shopping in town, Saturday.

H.M. Maffet and Allen B. Starcher were both at Morgan's store Saturday afternoon.

Henry Marks returned home from Zanesville, O., Saturday evening.

Roy Nutter of Cabin Ridge was calling on his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Nester, Sunday.

Mrs. Bud Burch and son, Billy, and daughter Carol, and Henry Marks were all visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Mrs. Bud Burch were attending a party at Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Gainer's home Friday night.

H.M. Maffet and Allen B. Starcher were visiting Henry Marks Wednesday.

Mrs. Ferris Barr and Mrs. Russell Nester were visiting friends Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Bud Burch and daughter, Carol were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher Thursday.

Basil Brown moved from Gene Starcher farm here Friday to Seldon Starcher farm on McCunes Run.

Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet arrived here Saturday from Barberton O. on a visit.

Coy Rader and son, Bob have been working on the farm for Mrs. Grace Barr this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were watching television at Holly Nester's store, Wednesday night.

Mrs. Vena Marks was a business caller on Mrs. Dee Nitz, Thursday.

H.M. Mafet was calling on Henry Marks Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son, Loren were visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs. Dee Nitz Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs Vere Price and son, Loren and Mrs. Mary Nitz were visiting in Ohio, Friday.

Mrs. Henry Marks, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Hazel Leach and Cleo Summers were all shopping in town Saturday .

Misses Brookzene and Judith Marie Reed were visiting Mrs Ferris Barrr Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Delta Starcher was visiting Mrs. Florence Rhodes Friday.

Allen B. Starcher was calling on Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks Sunday.

Basil Brown and H.M. Maffet were visiting Henry Marks and family, Monday afternoon.

Coy Rader and son, Bob, Henry Marks and Robert Burch all went to Zanesville, O., and Barberton, O., seeking employment Tuesday. They returned home Wednesday evening.

Clint Morrison was in this community, Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs Dee Nitz, Allen B. Starcher and Ferris Barr were all business callers in Spencer Friday.

Henry Marks was shopping at Roy Morgan's store one day this week.

Coy Rader was working for Mrs. Grace Barr Friday and Saturday. Folks shopping in town from our vicinity Saturday were Mrs. Sylvia Dueley, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Leach, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Mrs. Henry Marks.

Mr. and Mrs. Corley Miller and daughter, Sharon Lou, were Sunday guests of her step-mother and father Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher.

Henry Marks was calling on H.M. Maffet Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs Allen B. Starcher were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and family Sunday evening.

Several folks in this vicinity are ill of flu. Among them are Coy Rader, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Miller, Henry Marks and family, Allen B. Starcher and little Miss Carol Burch, and other folks have colds.

This reporter was sorry to hear of the death of Perry Shaffer, of Millstone. The family has our deepest sympathy.

Mrs Murl Price and son, Loren, were visiting with her mother, Mrs Mary Nitz, Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet came in from Barberton, O., Monday to spend a week at their home here.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son, Loren were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz one day this week.

Mrs. Coy Rader was visiting folks Monday and taking Blair orders .

Henry Marks was doing some plowing for Luther Booher, Monday and Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Corley Miller and daughter, Sharon, of Phillips Run were visiting her step-mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Thursday evening.

H.M. Maffet and Allen B.. Starcher were calling on Henry Marks, Thursday.

Ferris Barr and Allen B. Starcher were business callers in Spencer, Friday.

Jim Belt of Spencer purchassed a car of Robert Rader Friday evening.

Pvt. Charles Rader of the U.S. Army arrived here Friday evening to spend a three day pass at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs Coy Rader .

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Carpenter and daughters, Judy and Janet, and Miss Retha Maffet all of Barberton, O., arrived here Friday evening to spend the week end.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son, Loren, were calling on their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz, Saturday.

It was reported that Lester Booher fell from a hay stack and broke three or four ribs this week.

Louis Craddock, son of Mr. and Mrs Forrest Craddock, fell and broke his arm this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son, Loren, were calling on her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz one day this week.

Luther Booher took H.M. Maffet to town Wednesday where Mr. Maffet was consulting a doctor.

Mallie Carpenter is moving his drilling outfit on the farm of Allen B. Starcher where he will start a well soon.

Ferris Barr and Allen B. Starcher were in Spencer Friday.

Mr. and Mrs Allen B. Starcher had as their guests her son and family, Mr. and Mr.s Roy Wilson and children, and also her mother, Mrs. Florida Stump of Dunbar, over the week end.

Mrs. Coy Rader and daughter Emogene were visiting folks and delivering orders Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town Saturday.

H.M. Maffet was calling on Henry Marks and family Saturday evening.

Henry Marks was doing some work for Luther Booher Saturday.

Roy Nester was having corn crushed at Wesley Nester's mill Saturday.

Corley Miller underwent minor surgery at a hospital in Elizabeth Thursday.

Folks in Spencer Friday attending to business were Mr. And Mrs. Dee Nitz, Allen B. Starcher and Ferris Barr.

Mrs. Anna Parsons suffered a light stroke Friday afternoon. Dr. Boling came to see her and Friday evening Mrs Parsons was removed to a Parkersburg hospital.

Mr. Vena Marks wants to express her thanks to Mrs Mary Powell, Jerry Burch, Mr. and Mrs Allen B. Starcher, H.M. Maffett, Dr. Boling and the Stump funeral home for the help they gave to them Friday when her mother was become ill.

Mr. and Mrs. Fenton Nitz and son were the week end guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz.

Mrs Vena Marks and Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were among the folks from this community shopping and attending to business in town Saturday.

Mrs. Corley Miller left her little daughter, Sharon Lou, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs Allen B. Starcher Saturday afternoon while visiting her husband at the hospital in Elizabeth.

Miss Gae Parsons arrived in Parkersburg from Cleveland, O., Saturday to visit her mother, Mrs. Anna Parsons and was calling on her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs Henry Marks Saturday evening.

Mr. Rex Maffet was a Tuesday night guest of her mother, Mrs. Laura Nitz of Cabin Ridge.

Mrs. Willia Barr was visiting Mrs. Vena Marks Wednesday evening.

Several folks were watching TV at Holly Nester's Wednesday night.

H.M. Maffet was a business caller in Grantsville Thursday.

Ferris Barr and daughter, Erless and Allen B. Starcher were business callers in Spencer Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz were visiting in Spencer Friday.

Mrs. Opal Nitz of Barberton, Ohio, arrived here Friday night to visit her father and step-mother, Mr. and Mrs Allen B. Starcher, and other relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in Grantsville Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs Clyde Allen and niece, Mrs. Vena Marks and H.M. Maffet were in Parkersburg Sunday. Mrs. Marks and Mr. Maffet were visiting her mother, Mrs Anna Parsons, who remains in a hospital there but is some improved at this time.

H.M. Maffet was visiting Mr and Mr. Henry Marks Monday evening.

Allen B. Starcher and Henry Marks were at Holly Nester's store Monday night.

Mrs. Grace Barr and Mrs. Willia Barr were visiting Mrs Vena Marks Tuesday afternoon .

Henry Marks was doing some work for Ferris Barr Wednesday.

Mrs. Vena Marks was visiting Mrs. Willia Barr Thursday morning.

Those attending to business in Spencer Friday were Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Ferris Barr, Dee Nitz and Vere Price.

Among those shopping in town Saturday from our vicinity were Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Mrs. Henry Marks, Orville Miller and son, Ralph, and Cecil Mitchell and son, Robert.

Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet came home from Barberton, O., Saturday night.

Mrs. Anna Parsons remains in a Parkersburg hospital ill. Her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Queen visited her Wednesday from Cleveland, O.

Mr. and Mrs Vere Price and son, Loren, were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz, Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz were business callers in Spencer, Friday.

Miss Erless Barr was visiting Mrs. Henry Marks, Fr4iday afternoon.

Mrs. Laura Nitz was a Friday night guest of her daughter, Mr. Glada Maffret.

Donald Booher fell off his bicycle and sprained his ankle this week.

Quinton Ballatyne of Cleveland, O., was calling on Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks Saturday morning.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in Grantsville, Saturday.

Henry Marks was helping Mallie Carpenter and son, Rex, and Clifford Bailey run six-inch casing in the well they are drilling on the Allen B. Starcher farm this week.

Mrs. Anna Parsons is feeling better and is able to be up most of the time now.

Edward Starcher was visiting Allen B. Starcher Sunday night.

Bill King has been boarding with Allen B Starcher this week. He works on the well that Mallie Carpenter is drilling on Mr. Starcher's farm.

Henry Marks was working for Mallie Carpenter Wednesday .

Ray McCoy of the U.S. Army and Jackie Carpenter of Barberton, O., came in Friday night to visit their grandfather, Allen B. Starcher and other relatives.

Miss Erless Barr was the Wednesday night guest of Misses Judy and Janet Carpenter.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son, Loren, Were visiting her parents, Mr. and Mr. Dee Nitz Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town Saturday.

Cray Deuley has been working at the well for Mallie Carpenter.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson and children of Dunbr were week end guests of his step-father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher .

Henry Marks was visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marks, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Bud Burch and children were calling on Mr. and Mrs Allen B. Starcher, Sunday evening.

A group of folk gathered at John Morgan's Sunday night and had prayer meeting.

H.M. Maffet was calling on Henry Marks and family, Sunday evening.

Mrs. Vena Marks and foster son, Roger Paul, were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Sunday evening.

The high water Tuesday night did some damage tin this vicinity to crops and gardens.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son, Loren, were calling on her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz, Wednesday.

Henry Marks and Allen B. Starcher were calling on Mr. and Mrs Corley Miller , Wednesday morning.

Gene Starcher and son were at their farm here Wednesday to see about his stock and to fix fence the water washed out.

Russell Nester and son, Roy, were mowing some hay down for Rex Maffett, Wednesday..

H.M. Maffet's children were called home to see him Friday. He was ill of an infection in his leg, but is improving at this time. Mr. and Mrs Ralph Maffet, Miss Retha Maffet and Rex Maffet all came to be with their father and to visit Mrs. Rex Maffet.

Mr. and Mrs Allen B. Starcher were shopping in Grantsville Saturday morning and were attending to business in Spencer Saturday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs Vere Price and son, Loren, were Saturday guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs Dee Nitz.

Mallie Carpenter, Cray Deuley and Henry Marks were all visiting H.M. Maffet, Saturday evening.

Mrs. Ferris Barr and daughter, Erless, were visiting H.M. Maffet and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffret Saturday evening.

Miss Erless Barr went to Barberton, O., Sunday to visit her sister and family. She went with Miss Retha Maffet and Rex Maffet, who returned to their jobs there.

Cecil Mitchell moved his family to Barberton, O., Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Cray Deuley were visiting H M. Maffet Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Art Gibson of Mayfield, Pa., and Mr. and Mrs. Forest Bennett of near Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mrs. Florida Stump of Dunbar were all Monday dinner guests of Mr. nd Mrs. Bud Burch and were supper guests of Mr. and Mr. Allen B. Starcher. Mrs. Stump is the mother of Mrs. Burch and Mrs. Starcher.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son were calling on her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz Monday.

Mr. and Mrs .Allen B. Starcher were shopping in Grantsville Friday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and Family Monday. evening.

H.M. Maffet was calling on Henry Marks and family, Friday. Mr.Maffet is getting along good at this time.

Miss Gae Parsons and the Balantyne family, by whom she is employed, all of Cleveland, Ohio, were visiting her mother, Mrs. Anna Parsons and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks Saturday.

Clyde Allen of Ohio was visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs Field Allen and Mr. and Mrs. Cray Deuley over the week end.

Gene Starcher was at his farm Saturday.

Some folks from Arnoldsburg were at the well that Malie Carpenter is drilling on A.B. Starcher's farm.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Saunders and children of Barberton, O., were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet.

Mr. and Mrs. Worthington Poling and son of Cleveland, O., were visiting her grandfather, H.M. Maffet, Sunday.

Mrs. Beulah Carpenter and sons, Ray McCoy and Jimmy Carpenter, and Miss Norma Nitz arrived here last Friday night to visit their father and grand-father, Allen B. Starcher and other relatives and friends.

Billy Burch of the U.S. Army was the week end guest of his wife and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bud Burch.

Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Loucks and children of Barberton, O., were week end guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Barr.

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Carpenter arrived here Friday night to spend a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs Rex Maffet. they live in Barberton, O.

Some folk from our community have been attending the meeting on Phillips Run.

Mrs. Vena Marks was calling on Mrs. Ferris Bar, Monday evening.

Jack Booher of Barberton, O., spent the weekend with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Booher. Mr. Booher accompanied his son back to Barberton to visit for awhile.

Some folk gathered at Mrs. Carrie Reed's Tuesday evening and had prayer meeting.

Miss Retha Maffet of Barberton, and Mrs. Ralph Maffet of Little Hocking, O., arrived here Wednesday to visit H.M. Maffet, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet and other relatives for a few days.

Mrs. Hattie Booher was visiting Mrs. Vena Marks Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Scarlet of Cleveland, O., and Mrs. Scarlet's mother of Little Hocking were visiting H. M. Maffet and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. James Neter and son of Akron spent a day or two visiting his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Carpenter returned to their home in Barberton, Thursday.

Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz were shopping in Spencer Friday.;

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and son Loren were visiting her parents Mr. a nd Mrs Dee Nitz Friday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Marks and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Nicholas and children, Paul and ------ and Walter Marks were all guests of their son and brother, Henry Marks and family Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Randy and Mr. and Mrs. Bud Burch and family were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher Sunday.

Lovel Allen was visiting relatives in Pennsylvania over the week end.

Mrs. Ferris Barr and daughter Erless were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and Roger Paul, Sunday evening.

Russell Nestor was working for Ferris Barr, Monday.

Drilling has been started on another well on the Allen B. Starcher farm, known by the old Starkey place.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Tuesday evening.

H.M. Maffett was able to be out visiting friends Wednesday and was at prayer meeting at the Stoney Point church Wednesday night.

Mr. Willis Barr was helping Mr. and Mrs A.M. Nestor on Thursday. Mrs. Barr is a fine neighbor who is always willing to help others. Mrs. Nester has been ill a long time now and not able to do her house work. I'm sure God will bless Mrs. Barr for her kindness in others.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town, Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Nitz of Barberton, O., are announcing the birth of an eight pound, four ounce son born August 4. Paternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Greely Nitz of Barberton and great grandparents are Mr and Mrs. Dee Nitz and Allen B. Starcher.

Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet of Barberton O., spent last week end at their home here., returning to Barberton Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Queen of Cleveland, O., spent the week end visiting her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks. On Sunday they all motored to Weston to visit Mr. Queen's uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Crosby Queen.

Mr. and Mrs. Warren Rose and children of Racine, O., were here Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs Henry Marks, but found they were not at home, having gone to Weston for the day.

Mrs. Henry Marks is announcing the marriage of her sister Miss Gae Parsons to Mr. Quintin Ballantyne of Cleveland, Ohio August the 22nd. They were married in the Brooklyn Heights Congregational Church in Cleveland, O., by Rev. George Pullman. For her wedding the bride wore a street length dress of blue acetate and white accessories and a red rose corsage and jewels by Emmons. Mr. Ballantyne is a native of Calhoun and was the youngest daughter of the late Benjamin and Anna Schoolcraft Parsons. They will reside in Cleveland, O., where Mr. Ballantyne is employed.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and H.M. Maffett were attending the all day meeting at the Church last Sunday.

Mr. Coy Rider and children were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Barr.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks Sunday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and Loren were visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz Monday.

Mr. and Mrs. Corley Miller and daughter Sharon of Phillips Run were visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher Tuesday.

Mrs. Vena Marks and Roger Paul were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Starcher Tuesday afternoon also.

Some folks attended the tent meeting at North Grantsville both Friday and Saturday nights.

Henry Marks and roger Paul were calling on Mr. and Mrs. Ferris Barr Friday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Mrs Vena Marks were among folks shopping in Grantsville Saturday .

Pratt Barr of Akron, O., spent the weekend here with his wife and daughter .

Jimmy Carpenter of Barberton, O., was visiting his grandfather, Allen B. Starcher Saturday.

It is certainly dry in our community and water is getting scarce for home us as well as for stock.

Mr. and Mrs. Lester Booher have purchased another care.

We are sorry to hear of Uncle Dave Craddock being ill. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet arrived here last week end from Barberton, O., and spent several days visiting relatives.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher attended the wedding of his grandson, Holly R. McCoy to Miss Verla Minney last Sunday.

Gene Starcher and Amos Cogar of Arnoldsburg were in this vicinity Monday.

Vere Price, D.W. Price, Henry Marks, Denver Robinson and Russ Everson helped run the 6 inch casing here at the well on Allen B. Starcher's farm, Tuesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Rex Maffet were Wednesday night guests of her mother, Mrs. Laura Nitrz of Cabin Ridge.

Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz were business visitors in Spencer, Friday.

Loren Price, son of Mr. and Mrs . Vere Price, was reported ill. We hope the little gentleman is feeling fine by now.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were shopping in town Saturday.

Virgil and Walter Marks and Betty Lou and Barbara Marks were all guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Saturday.

Mrs. Delta Starcher was helping her sister, Mrs Bud Burch one day this week.

Mr. and Mrs Vere Price and son, Loren, were visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs Dee Nitz Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Denver Starcher and twin sons, Denver and Victor, of Middlebourne, were visiting his father and step mother, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Thursday evening.

Mrs. Mina Marks and Mr. and Mrs. Verdis Marks and daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Schooolcraft and son and Charley Rush were all visiting Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks, Tuesday afternoon. On Tuesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and H.M. Maffet were calling on the Marks family.

Mrs. Vena Marks and Roger Paul were calling on Mrs. Ferris Barr, Wednesday evening.

Cottage prayer meeting was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Nester, on Cabin Ridge, Thursday night.

Allen B. Starcher sold some calves at the livestock market in Spencer, Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz were business callers in Spencer, Friday.

Squirrel season opened here with a bang, Thursday morning.

Mrs. Ferris Barr and daughter, Erless, were visiting Mrs. Henry Marks, Friday evening.

Fred Starcher of Barberton, O., spent Friday night with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price and Loren were calling on her parents, Mr. an Mrs. Dee Nitz, Friday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Wilson and children, Janice and Bobby, of Dunbar were Friday night guests of his step-father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher .

Folks shopping in town Saturday were Mrs. Henry Marks, Mr. and Mrs Roy Wilson and children, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Ferris Barr.

Henry Marks was helping Gene Starcher in hay harvest, Saturday afternoon.

The game warden was in this community Saturday.

Mrs. Clifford Bailey was planning on a visit to Barberton this week to visit her husband who is employed there.

Mrs. Ferris Barr was visiting with Mrs. Pratt Barr one day this week.

Mrs. Eula Nicholson of Jesses Run was in this community on business one day this week.

Allen B. Starcher, Henry Marks and Corley Miller went together Thanksgiving day and butchered a hog apiece. They were assisted by Melvin Starcher.

Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Queen of Cleveland, O., arrived here on Thanksgiving to visit her sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks and to attend to business in Glenville.

Allen B. Starcher and son, Richard, of Barberton, O., went deer hunting. Richard was the lucky hunter this year. He got a doe.

Guy Wood husked corn for Henry Marks two days a while back.

Mrs. Henry Marks was shopping at Roy Morgan's store Tuesday of last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Vere Price were visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Dee Nitz this past week.

H.M. Maffet was calling on Mr. and Mrs. Henry Marks Thursday evening.

Mr. Nina Marks and son Virgil, were visiting her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Vena Marks Friday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher and Lovell Allen were shopping in Grantsville Saturday.
