January 25, 1945


Citizens of the Mt Zion telephone division met Tuesday night at the J.F. Allen store and made arrangements to repair their lines.

Orville Givens of Birch River was a Monday night guest of H.M. Maffett.

Allen B. Starcher was calling on H.M. Maffett Monday night.

Coy Rader who had been employed in Parkersburg returned home Friday night.

Allen B. Starcher and H.M. Maffett were business visitors in Grantsville last Wednesday.

Virdis and Virgil Marks were Sunday guests of their sister-in-law, Mrs. Henry Marks.

Mr. and Ms. Allen B. Starcher were business callers in Spencer last Thursday.

Inez, Emma, Roy and James Nester were visiting their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A.M. Nester, Sunday.

Elsworth Kirby of Hur passed through this community Saturday.

Ms. Fairest Barr attended a shower party at the Ferrell Gibson home Saturday night.

H.M. Maffett was visiting Allen B. Starcher Saturday.

Charley Starcher of Barnes Run was a Sunday dinner guest of H.M. Maffett.

February 8, 1945


Mr. and Mrs. Lovel Allen received word Friday from their son, Harold, who is in the U.S. Navy: This was the first time they had heard from him since last August. He said he was well.

Mrs. Anna Parsons has received word from her son, Pvt. Lora Parsons, of the U.S. Army. He was wounded in action last Fall but is now allright and has returned to the States.

Bad weather has prevented any work being done on the telephone line the past week.

H.M. Maffett was a Monday dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Booher.

H.M. Maffett attended funeral services for W.E. Stump at the Boyles cemetery last Wednesday.

Cecil Mitchell left last Thursday for his army examination.

Vere Price of near Altizer purchased a fox hound from H.M. Maffett last Wednesday.

Roy Morgan and George Wood were shopping in Spencer Friday.

H.M. Maffett was visiting Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher last Thursday evening.

Mrs. Hattie Booher and daughter, Mrs. Velma Wood, were consulting a doctor in Grantsville Saturday.

C.H. Gunn was shopping in Grantsville Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher were visitors in Grantsville Saturday.;

Vere Price of near Altizer visited ths father-in-law, Dee Nitz, last Wednesday.

Mrs. Henry Marks and Mrs. Anna Parsons were having dental work done in Grantsville Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Carpenter and Rex Maffett arrived here Sunday from Barberton, O., to spend a few days with home folks.

Men of this vicinity have been repairing the telephone line the past week.

Mrs. Henry Marks and Mrs. Anna Parsons were visiting Mrs. Allen B. Starcher Monday afternoon.

H.M. Maffett was a business caller in Grantsville Monday.

Murl and Gene Maffett, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Maffett of Little Hocking, O., missed a week of school due to illness. They formerly lived in this community.

Guy Nitz was visiting his daughter, Mrs. Rex Maffett last Wednesday.

Mrs. Velma Wood left last Wednesday for Barberton, O., to join her husband, Guy Wood who is employed there.

Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Carpenter and Rex Maffett returned last Wednesday to Barberton, O., where they are employed.

A.M. Nester, "Bud" Burch, Mr. and Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, and H.M. Maffett were among the business visitors in Grantsville Saturday.

Mrs. Vena Marks and Mrs. Anna Parsons were shopping in Grantsville Saturday.

Mrs. Lovel Allen was a Saturday morning guest of Miss Justine Starcher.

Mrs. C. Carr Gunn entertained with a shower party at her home Saturday night honoring Mrs. Coy Rader. Those attending were Mrs. Allen B. Starcher, Mrs. Farris Barr, Mrs. Ferrell Gibson, Mrs. Lovel Allen, Mrs. Lester Booher, and the honored guest, Mrs. Rader.

Miss Justine Starcher entertained with a party Saturday night, the occasion being her birth anniversary. Present were Macel and Bertha Gun, Helen Starcher, Irene Booher, Ilene Allen, Pete and Dick Gunn, Charles Price, Homer, Charles and Robert Rader and Miss Rader.
