Notes on Delbert Harold Starcher

Delbert Harold Starcher was born September 19, 1907, the son of Allen B. and Icie Mae Starcher. An image of his birth record is available AT THIS LINK. He was the second of a family of nine children who survived childhood -- Melvin, Delbert, Opal, Beulah, Victor, Richard, Denver, Nina, and Justine. Four other children, Aldine Brown, Vere, Ray, and Pauline, did not survivie childhood.

He married Estelle Boatright on January 13, 1929. Estelle was born May 19, 1910, the daughter of J.S. and Almeda Boatright.

Delbert and Estel were listed as living with Allen B. Starcher in the 1930 Federal Census.

The 1930 census indicates that all the children were still living at the Allen B. Starcher home, with the exception of Opal who had married and is listed in the household of her father-in-law, Dee Nitz.

Delbert and Estelle, "Uncle Deb and Aunt Eck," lived most of their life in Barberton Ohio, having moved there about 1941. Delbert was a truck driver. They had one daughter, Leah.

Estelle died February 11, 1974.

Obituary of Estelle V. Starcher
BARBERTON - Estelle V. Starcher, 63, of 193 Twenty-eighth st. SW died Monday at Citizens Hospital.

Born in Calhoun County, W. Va., she lived in Barberton 33 years.

Mrs. Starcher was formerly a clerk at Jean Frocks Clothing store in Norton for five years.

She was a member of the Akron Baptist Temple.

She leaves her husband, Delbert; daughter, Mrs. Leah Ruth Spangler, Barberton; brothers Ernest, Gay, and Hugh Boatwright, Calhoun County, Vaughn Boatwright, Pennsboro, W. Va., and Rrex Boatwright, Arizona; sisters Mrs. Bethel O'Brian and Mrs. Ethel Harris, Barberton; and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Campfield-Hickman funeral home, where friends may call 7 to 9 tonight, 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday until services.

Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery.
Delbert died January 22, 2005 at the age of 97. He stayed very active up until his death, rarely missing a family gathering.

Delbert H. Starcher, 97, died Saturday, January 22, 2005.

A resident of Barberton for 64 years, he was a member of Akron Baptist Temple.

Preceded in death by his wife, Estelle; and special friend, Viola Moore. Surviving are his daughter, Leah Ruth (Robert) Spangler; grandson, Bob (Jean) Spangler; granddaughter, Sandy (Paul) Durbin; great-grandson, Robbie Spangler; sisters, Justine (Corley) Miller of Spencer, W. Va., Nina Boatright of Norton; brothers, Denver (Sally) Starcher of Sistersville, W. Va., and Richard (Evalena) of Charlotte, NC.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, 1 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home with Rev. Ernie Kemppel officiating. Burial Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday, 5 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.
